We have designed the McBerns GM300 Odour Filter to be installed on top of air valves, sewer manholes, pump stations or replacement of old corroded vent stacks at ground level to treat gaseous emissions released at those sites. In fact they can be used in many industrial situations where odours are a problem. Our Filter absorbs H2S, biogases and other foul odours, using an environmentally friendly natural mineral and an oxidising chemical.
Many odour problems occur during times of peak flows, which generally occur for periods of around 2 -3 hours in the morning and again in the evening. Peak flows create greater turbulence causing increased release of biogases, particularly H2S. At the same time the extra displacement of sewage flow causes the gases to be forced from the confined space of the manhole or pump station. The gases find their way into the atmosphere via gaps in lids etc, thus resulting in odour complaints. Have your council staff ever received an odour complaint, and by the time they reach the site, the odour is no longer noticeable?
Your crews may miss the critical periods, the McBerns GM300 Odour Filter doesn’t. It’s always on the job!
The McBerns Odour Filters don’t just mask the odours. They actually treat biogases, particularly H2S, by a continuous treatment process where the specially formulated media captures the sulfide gas & other foul noxious odours and neutralises them by changing the molecular structure, only releasing clean air into the environment.
MCBERNS FILTERS ARE A PROVEN FAST, EFFECTIVE & ECONOMICAL SOLUTION TO YOUR ODOUR COMPLAINTS.
Installation is easy as the McBerns GM Odour filters are mounted at ground level and only require a 100-150mm hole to be cored in the manhole lid or pump station roof. The filter is then mounted over the cored hole. A successful installation requires that lids and any other escape routes be efficiently sealed, leaving emission via the filter as the only escape option.
Increasingly GM300 Filters are being used to replace old corroded vent stacks and future maintenance can be carried out at ground level, no more expensive cherry-pickers and less WPH&S issues.
The McBerns GM300 Odour Filter is easily and safely recharged.Longevity of the Filter’s effectiveness depends on the amount of gases passing through it.
Once the Filter is saturated, a replacement filter cartridge is available. It is safe to handle and easily installed.
The Filter media is a combination of various grades of a natural mineral along with a very small amount of an oxidising chemical.
If there are gaps anywhere, the gases will escape through these weaknesses, so for effective odour control, the pump station should be well sealed.
Often we see instances where there is no seal in the service conduit from a pump station’s control cabinet.
Aside from odour emissions, this can cause corrosion in the cabinet. We recommend the replacement of old corroded lids and covers. Or at the very least seal all possible exit points.
We have a range of good sealing tapes for pump station lids and we custom make sealed pump station Safety Lids to suit most situations, check here for more information.
The McBerns GM375 Odour Filter is a larger version of the successful Ground Mount Filter GM300. Due to its larger dimensions it contains 4 times more absorbent media than the GM300.
It is designed for more extreme situations where coping with greater airflows is necessary. There are two options for installation. It can be seated over a vent hole in a manhole or pump station cover, just like the GM300 Filter. It also has a 100mm inlet pipe to which an emission conduit can be connected. This is useful for direct connection to an air valve or an extraction fan.
McBerns Odour Filters are constructed of UV resistant PVC to last many years exposed to the elements. It’s compact and aesthetically designed to blend into the surrounding environment.
The media comes in 2 sections to make installation easier. The main ingredient in the media is a natural mineral which is particularly effective in adsorbing hydrogen sulphide (H²S) molecules. There is also a small quantity of an oxidising chemical and the top layer is activated carbon.

ZC300 installed

ZC300 ground mount filter
The ZC300 Odour Filter is designed to extract and treat gaseous emissions in waste water collection systems and small treatment plants. It is suitable for use on sewer mains, manholes, pump stations, packaged treatment systems etc. The filter absorbs foul odours and bio-gases including hydrogen sulphide (H2S). This cleverly designed Filter is an active process that reacts with the H2S & other foul odours, neutralizing them by changing their molecular structure and releasing only clean air
back into the environment.
The Filter comprises 3 compartments: the emissions enter the inlet compartment at the bottom via a 100mm inlet pipe. The gases then flow into the middle compartment which contains impregnated activated carbon where the initial treatment occurs. A further scrubbing takes place when the treated emissions exit through the top compartment via four 300mm McBerns media cartridges. These cartridges contain a zeolite based media. It is safe and easy to install and is easy and convenient to maintain, monitor and recharge.
The ZC300 is compact and aesthetically designed to blend into the surrounding environment and is a fast and economical solution to odours.
While our Filters are extremely effective it is essential that the pump station site is well sealed. All openings that will allow gases to escape should be sealed, we recommend replacement of old corroded covers or if suitable, seal openings with a good quality sealing tape. McBerns can supply custom made Sealed Safety Lids and Sealing Tapes to correct even the most troublesome sites.
ZC300 ODOUR FILTER IS NOT A MASK!
The McBerns ZC300 Odour Filter is our heavy duty filter. It is designed to treat wastewater odour emissions. The ZC300 is not just a mask, it actually absorbs and treats the biogases, particularly H2S.
This filter is comprised of 3 compartments:
Dimensions:
Length 800mm; Breadth 800mm; Height 1230mm; Weight 80kg without media. The unit is fabricated from UVPVC and is painted with polyurethane “mist green” paint.
The ZC300 Filter is designed to be mounted at ground level. The unit needs to be placed on a solid, level base.
Emission pipe is joined (ensure airtight seal) to the 100mm inlet at the bottom of the main body cabinet. Impregnated Activated Carbon is poured into the lower chamber through the 4 x 150mm holes in the cartridge cylinders, then the 4 x 300mm media cartridges slip into each of the 4 cylinders in the upper media chamber. Once the top cover is fitted and secure your odours will be gone.

ZC300 filter cartridges
The McBerns ZC300 Odour Filter is easily and safely recharged.
Longevity of the cartridges’ effectiveness depends on the amount of H2S and other bio-gases passing through the filter. When cartridges are no longer effective the filter media will need to be replaced. The complete package is quick & easy to install.
The kit comprises:

ZC300 extraction fan

ZC300 fan dimensions
The Extraction fan is a 3/phase “ExE” rated explosion proof motor powering a fully enclosed polypropylene fan. The fan is of robust construction. A weather cover is available if required.
